Constitutional law is one of the principal branches of public law and deals with the fundamental principles governing the political and legal organization of a country. Under the 2004 Constitution of Afghanistan, Afghanistan was defined as an independent, unitary, and indivisible state. The Constitution established the structure and powers of the state’s principal institutions and provided a framework for the fundamental rights and freedoms of citizens, the judicial system, public administration, and other fundamental matters of the country. It also recognized rights such as the protection of property, the right to education, and other fundamental rights, while providing that the payment of taxes and duties was subject to law.
