Constitutional Law of Afghanistan comprises the rules and principles governing the structure of the state, the powers and responsibilities of constitutional institutions, the fundamental rights and freedoms of citizens, and the relationship between the state and its people. The 2004 Constitution of Afghanistan, during the period of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, was the principal legal document in this field and regulated matters including the structure of the state, fundamental rights and freedoms, the legislative and judicial branches, and public administration.
